What is the Synod?
The Archdioecese of Brisbane is undertaking the process of a synod
which is a gathering of invited priests and representaives from
a variety of groups parishes and schools to vote on the future direction
of the local Church.
Why?
Archbishop Batthersby could have made the decisions himself as
to the needs of the Catholic community in Brisbane, but he decided
that this was too important to do without consultation with the
people.
The idea is to create a Church community that connects with God
and each other and reaches out to others. He would like to hear
from the people as to what that church would look like for them.
Who participates?
All Catholics practising or non practising are asked to respond.
Young people have in particular been invited and welcomed as a crucial
voice for the future of the church in Brisbane
What do we have to do?
Young people will be asked to comment on What are our gifts (Spiritual
Treasure) as part of a community of faith. These can be everything
good about our fatih. Our friendship with each other, our desire
to help those in need, our enthusiasm and energy that is spread
throughout our community, our prayers and support for those around
us.
These are only some of them.
How do we satisfy our needs (Spiriual Hunger)
What do we want from our Church,
How do we make it relevant and engaging.
All comments are welcome
How do we respond to the energy of young people what would make
it better or more exciting or more enjoyable?
How do we look after each other in church in order that we grow
and adapt as necessary(nurture mission, ministry and vocation)
To respond to these issue you can reply directly to the Synod office
synod@office.bne.catholic.net.au
indicating that you are a young person with something to say or
you can talk directly to your parish and take part in any activities
designed to gather information.
These will be happening over the next 4 weeks and all responses
are required by 31st August so don’t keep your ideas to yourself
this is a unique way to influence growth and change in the expression
of our faith.
