I emigrated to Australia in 1992 after spending most of my
life in Scotland. I left my family and close friends behind
to explore the opportunities within Australia. I am the youngest
in my family, I have a brother, Andrew and a sister, Elizabeth.
I was raised in an active parish community in Glasgow and
I carry a strong Celtic influence with me.
I am a physiotherapist at the PA Hospital and have been there
for 5 years, before that I worked in hospitalty and tourism
becoming accoustumed to the Aussie lifestyle.I am also employed
by the Parish (8hrs/month) to work with young people, helping
them to grow in faith and provide opportunities for a positive
experience of church and parish life. In addition to that
role I am the youth ministry co-ordinator for the Parish ,co-ordinating
a team of committed people assiting young people with social,
spiritual, emotional and educational development amongst their
peers, their families and the community.
Why do I work with young people? Well simply because I was
lucky growing up to have people there for me . I had a great
opportunity in experiencing parish community life. I have
made true friendships from that experience, have grown personally
and spiritually as a result and I would like to offer my experience
and my faith with other young people if it helps in their
growth as people.
I have a great love of the outdoor lifestyle and will take
off to the ocean or mountains whenever I can. I am passionate
about touch football and play 2-3 times a week in the summer
and winter seasons. In the off season I try to cycle regularly
and go to the gym. If I get any time left over I love to sleep!!!
I relax with good company, children's books and in particular
the works of the great Dr Seuss! I believe in a life of choices
where we can choose to grow, accepting the possibilty of a
restless ride or we can remain within our boundaries of comfort
allowing for a limited growth-so far I have had a bit of both.
